What is Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication
Communication:
The activity involves sharing and transferring messages and or information, ideas, feelings or emotions between one person to another is termed as Communication. Communication has two major parts, Verbal Communication and Non-Verbal Communication are further discussed below:
Verbal Communication:
The term Verbal Communication refers to expressing messages or information, feelings and or emotions by using a huge collection of words and sounds between Sender and Receiver with the intention of communication.
VERBAL COMMUNICATION |
Through the Verbal Communication channel, flow of messages or information is more clear and provides better understanding and prevents the circumstances of ambiguity in comparison of non-verbal communication. Make sure the words used to continue conversation between sender and receiver are clear and familiar which become meaningful for both. Verbal Communication includes both Oral Communication and Written Communication.
1) Oral Communication-
Oral communication is the part of verbal communication that is the most potential means of communication, ideas and views can be exchanged easily with this medium. Oral Communication includes Speeches, Seminars, Presentation, Telephonic Conversation, Videoconferences, face-to-face communication, interviews etc.
2) Written Communication-
Messages or information are conveyed generally in black and white procedure. This is the most suitable form of communication in the organization. Written Communication includes letters, e-mails, manuals, reports, collection of web pages, company newsletters, bulletin board postings, pamphlets etc.
Non-Verbal Communication
The term Non-Verbal Communication refers to expressing messages or information, feelings and or emotions with their behavior through gestures, facial expressions, shrugging shoulders, twinkling eyes and eyebrows, physical appearance such as hand and body movements etc.

Non-Verbal Communication has following Components are given below:
1) Kinesics
Kinesics is termed as body language. This is the medium of communication mostly people used to express their messages without using words such as, bodily actions, eye contact, posture, gestures, facial expressions.
2) Proxemics
People communicate nonverbally with maintaining space or spatial distances between sender and receiver because these vary from culture.
3) Paralanguage
Paralanguage refers to messages, emotions, feelings, pitch, volume and attitudes used to convey consciously or unconsciously through voice.
4) Haptics
People also can communicate through human touch to express their happiness, joy, feelings or emotions such as shaking hands, Mother and Father expressing affection by kissing their child, hugs of two intimate friends, take blessing from Grandmother and Grandfather with touch of their leg toes etc.
5) Chronemics
Chronemics refers to a timeframe within which one has to communicate without wastage of time.
